MBUNTU Foundation is not a general NGO running a list of separate programmes. We do one thing, and we do it deeply: we study, strengthen, and scale the financial systems communities already operate for themselves (savings groups,  credit cooperatives and micro-finance layers) and use that same infrastructure to design and deliver everything else. Health, WaSH (water and sanitation) and permaculture programming are introduced through community finance as the vehicle, not run as separate program alongside it.

We do it this way because the group is the infrastructure. Once a community has built the trust and structure to manage money together, that same structure turns out to be one of the most effective ways to deliver everything else, and more effective in our experience, than running health, WaSH, or agricultural programmes as separate initiatives layered on top. That is not a philosophy we hold. Rather, it is a finding we test and document, and it is why a specialization in trust-based finance ends up mattering for a lot more than just finance.
